Ana Stevenson

Born in Yorkshire to a mime artist and a dancer, and with a painter for a grandmother, the Arts in all its forms has always been an important part of Ana’s life. After spending most of her high school education in the art department, Ana took a slightly more academic direction to the arts and completed an MA degree in European Civilization and Art History at Glasgow University.
Graduating in 2001 she went to work for the charity NGM as a dancer, teaching arts workshops and doing youth work in Lancashire. Although she loved dancing, visual art has always been her real passion and she moved to Bristol in 2002 to study for a National Diploma in Art and Design, which gave her a wide range of skills and a year of playing!
‘Teaching Art with Passion ‘ proved to be her vocation and her main art form and she went on to gain a PGCE in Secondary (high school) Art and Design in 2005, combining her two ‘loves’. She is now in her fourth year as Head of Art at Yate International Academy, a busy and thriving place, and has the challenging but rewarding job of teaching art and design to teenagers-and recently to the under 11’s!! As well as producing fine artists, the department is often involved in producing artwork and sets/scenery for school productions and generally making a creative mess.

Ana is a mixed media artist and does her own work when she is let out of school for good behaviour. She has produced exhibition work in ceramics and sculptural textiles and creates work in any medium she can get her hands on! Before taking on the role as Head of department, she had the amazing opportunity to study painting and photography for 5 months in Italy and as a result has been painting in oils, focussing on portraits. She has recently been exploring new ways of working and capturing some ones character.
